I believe you should know the person behind the business card… so here’s my story.
Through the toughest times, I continue to put 1 foot after the other, constantly moving forward. While adapting to new challenges, I learned that there are always roads forward even if they are not the ones you expect.
“Don’t stop for gas on your way home. We can’t afford it until you get paid.”
I became a licensed REALTOR® in 2006, and when the market crashed, we lost nearly everything. In the following years, my husband, Jonathan, and I had to rebuild our lives.
Jonathan has his own plumbing business for many years that I’ve helped run behind the scenes. That business kept a roof overhead and food on the table, even during the toughest times.
My family means everything to me, and I could not wait to become a mother. My oldest child was at my high school graduation, and, although I love my children, being a teenage mother was not easy. I know I made plenty of mistakes along the way, but the two most important things for me were for them to be loved and healthy.
When my oldest got sick at 16 months old, it solidified the importance. After a lengthy seizure that brought on severe complications, he spent three weeks in Vanderbilt hospital’s ICU unit. Those first two weeks were harder than anything I’ve ever experienced as doctors continued to tell me that my baby would not survive. It was unbelievably stressful, but I never gave up hope.
The Ronald McDonald house was a saving grace, offering me a place to stay after a week of sleeping on chairs in the hospital waiting room so that I could be with our son around the clock. Fortunately, my son is a fighter, and though he had to learn how to walk and eat again, he has grown up to be a perfectly healthy young man.
Through it all, I learned how important resilience and adaptability are. My son’s resilience at such a young age, inspired me – miraculously proving all the doctors wrong.
I thank God for bringing Jonathan into my life when he did. We met when I was a divorced, young mother of two small children, and we created a family and life together, all of our own. We’ve been through ups and downs just like everyone else. In the end, we are always there for each other.
Time and time again I have been pushed further than I thought possible, and each time I have found a way to the other side. Through the recession, we adapted, sometimes waiting to make purchases for even the littlest things, like gas. And yet, no matter what, we kept moving forward.
Once we built ourselves back up, and all our children were in school, I felt it was the right time to go back into full-time real estate. I never stopped thinking about it and Jonathan was 100% supportive I’m starting again. He has been a huge support and encouraging force in my life – I would not be where I am today without him.
In life and real estate, I’m a realist. I know things can go wrong and be unbelievably hard – I have been there. However, I realized even in the darkest times, we still have options to get where we want to be. I adapt to what I’m given, and will always find ways to keep moving forward. I became a full-time REALTOR® again in 2014, earned my broker license in 2017 and co-founded Realist Realty in 2018.
